Photography competition is developing
news@woburnonline.com

WOBURN — WREN (Woburn Residents Environmental Network), SCI (Woburn's Social Capital Initiative) and the Woburn Historical Commission are again co-sponsoring the Woburn Photography Competition this year.

"Last year's competition was a great success," said Gerry Kehoe, co-chairman of WREN. "We had great entries by both adults and youngsters."

The winners will be invited to an Awards Ceremony to be held at City Hall on Sept. 12 in conjunction with the Woburn Garden Awards. The winning photos will be exhibited in the rotunda at this event.

The competition will be split into three divisions:

- age 16 and under (as of August 1),

- adult amateur,

- and Adult Professional (which requires one $5 entry fee; checks can be made payable to WREN).

Anyone who sells their photography on a regular basis or who makes a substantial part of their income from their photos is considered a professional.

The three categories for the photographs are:

- Woburn's Conservation Areas,

- Woburn's Historic Buildings and/or Heritage,

- and Woburn Volunteerism in Action.

Photos in all categories must have been taken between Aug. 1, 2003 and Aug. 1, 2004.

Any photo taken in any of Woburn's many conservation areas at any time of the year is eligible for the Woburn's Conservation Areas category, sponsored by WREN. For more information on Woburn's conservation areas, you can contact the Woburn Conservation Commission.

Photos submitted for the Woburn's Historic Buildings and/or Heritage category can be taken of any historic building in Woburn or can reflect the city's heritage (e.g. historic memorials, re-enactments, etc.). This category is sponsored by the Woburn Historic Commission.

The Woburn Volunteerism in Action category, sponsored by SCI, is for any photo of Woburn residents engaging in any type of volunteer activity within Woburn, or in other acts that help their neighbors and/or the community.
