Kravings approved at former Flighty's

WOBURN - A new restaurant will occupy the former Krazy Karry's and Flighty's site on Winn Street after the City Council at its most recent meeting approved a special permit that allows for accessory parking on an adjacent lot.

Kravings, managed by Robert Haykal, will be located at 106 Winn St., also site of the former Breakers Billiards parlor and in shared space with the present Breakers Ice Cream shop.

A special permit was not needed for the restaurant itself but instead for the off-site parking, in the form of seven spaces that have been leased in a lot to the rear of the building.

Attorney Mark Salvati, representing Kravings, said the set up of the restaurant will be "identical" to its predecessor and that the use is not fast food, which would have required a separate special permit from the council.

The leased parking area in the back will also "allow for access and egress to North Warren Street," taking some of the traffic volume off the Winn Street entrance, Salvati noted.

In response to questions from City Council President Charles Doherty, Salvati said there would be no off-site deliveries of food.

To the special permit, the council also attached 14 conditions suggested by the Planning Board, which were similar to the ones applied to the Krazy Karry's permit.

Hours of operation will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days, snow removal must be off-site, no advertising banners will be allowed, and signs must be posted to designate parking for Breakers and Kravings, among some more routine conditions like the dumpster for the site must be screened by a fence.

Haykal operates a restaurant called the Liberty Bell in Stoneham (not to be confused with the Liberty Bell on Main Street in Woburn Center). He takes over the space on Winn Street from Michael Han, who operated a restaurant called Flighty's after Krazy Karry's owners Donald and Carolyn Buehler obtained the original permit in 2005 to reconfigure the billards parlor.

Salvati told the Planning Board that Haykal plans to open the restaurant in January.
